BIOGRAPHY

From an early age, Adam Matthew Smith has been a versatile creator and writer, with a passion for storytelling that spans music, comic books, and graphic novels. His creative journey began in his youth when he dreamt of becoming a comic book artist. He spent the 90s sketching characters and building stories that would later form the foundation of his debut graphic novel, Shadows. Known for his dynamic approach to storytelling, Adam was selected as a creator for MegaCon Orlando in both 2023 and 2024, further cementing his growing presence in the comic book world.

Adam's creative path took a detour in his teens when he picked up the guitar at 15, leading to the formation of the band Mercury Frost (1998-2003), which allowed him to shift his writing to a heavier, darker sound. Immediately after this project came After the Silence (2003), a solo endeavor which allowed Adam to focus more on his interest in conjuring original compositions. From the darker sounds of Mercury Frost and his solo experimental work emerged Our Divided Fortune (2004-2007). During its four year tenure, Our Divided Fortune played many shows and events, including Florida Music Festival. They were also a headlining band for the well-known Anti-Pop Music Festival its first couple of years. After the members of Our Divided Fortune went their separate ways, Adam focused again on his solo work.

Keiko (2007) allowed Adam to create more elaborate compositions, producing richer, ambient rhythms, and constructing lyrics rooted in personal experience. One of the tracks from this DIY compilation, “The Amber Light,” was showcased as an extended scored version for the indie film In Camera. During this time, Adam wrote and played guitar for She Can’t Breathe (2008), a band that eventually presented “When the Way is Forgotten” to Warner Brothers Records in Los Angeles. The urge to create original solo work was still present, however, so Adam went back to co-produce “Speechless in Sleepless Dreams” (2011), his romantic tragedy concept album, with Cameron Mizell of Chango Studios. This album was favorably reviewed by critics, and drew public interest in multiple countries. Mark Dodds of Brink Mag called it a “must-be-heard-album” and claimed “Adam’s prominent voice carries you on a journey of timeless love truths.”

After releasing his 2016 home-recorded album “A Beautiful Day For Bad Feelings,” Adam returned to his first passion—comic books. Revisiting characters and stories he created as a pre-teen, he developed Shadows, a cyberpunk thriller set in a dystopian, post-superhero future. His debut graphic novel, released in 2022, introduces readers to a world where a group of hypersapien rebels aims to topple an oppressive government by infiltrating the stronghold of Vice President Snyder, a self-styled prototype for his own super-race.

Recently joining the Apollo City Comics label, Adam is hard at work on its follow-up series, HyperForce, which dives even deeper into the universe as it zooms in on the characters. In addition, Adam has contributed to other projects, including The Shadow Anthology and Faster Than Light Anthology, showcasing his versatility and love for collaborative storytelling. With upcoming projects like Legend of The Forest King, The Green Action Kids, and Phantasmagoria in the works, Adam’s creative output shows no signs of slowing down, as he continues to push the boundaries of graphic fiction with bold narratives and unforgettable characters.
